Situated on a prominent corner in downtown Jackson, Wyoming, Provisions Restaurant is designed to activate the street edge by blurring the boundaries between public and private space. Every facade is designed with the intent to interact with the streetscape through the use of large operable window walls and pedestrian-scaled details. Carefully crafted outdoor space includes indoor/outdoor seating and an event lawn that offers passers-by an invitation to throw a blanket down and enjoy the views of Snow King Mountain. A greenhouse-inspired glass structure provides semi-conditioned overflow seating for the colder months while maintaining the benefits of outdoor seating such as ventilation, views, and street edge activity. The space also offers a flexible zone for events with the ability to open up onto the adjacent lawn.
Downtown Jackson’s historic wood facades and boardwalk street textures inspired the use of shou sugi ban wood paneling, where charred wood boards provide a modern look with a fire and weather-resistant finish. The proportions of the adjacent western facades and covered walk lend inspiration to the height and shape of operable glass windows, which mimic the adjacent awnings in size and scale when open. Natural wood interior walls, ceiling, and built-in seating touch on biophilic design principles while contrasting the dark exterior wood finish with a warm, inviting interior look and feel.
